Comparing our latest, fully automated TAB Wrapper Tornado Genius Controls orbital stretch wrappers to the prototype of our original orbital stretch wrapper designed more than 10 years ago, it’s almost hard to believe both bear the same name and share the same patented pallet wrapping technology.

As hundreds upon hundreds of FABTECH Expo attendees witnessed in awe at our booth, our new Genius Controls enable a single forklift driver to manage the entire pallet wrapping process without leaving the seat of the forklift. There’s no remote control needed, no buttons to press or hold, no cords to handle, no need to exit the forklift to attach the end of the stretch wrap to the pallet, or to setup the stretch film for the next pallet load.

Now the orbital pallet wrapper starts, wraps, and stops all on its own.

With this pioneering advance, we’re delivering a fully automated material handling experience for the safest, fastest, smoothest, easiest way to stretch wrap tight, secure pallet loads that we’ve ever developed.

Packaging Safety and Convenience of Full Automation

We’re product design and manufacturing engineers at heart so we are constantly coming up with ideas to improve the safety and efficiency of the metalworking process. That’s how we came up with the idea for the TAB Wrapper Tornado in the first place!

We were trying to figure out how to protect our palletized fabricated metal parts during storage and delivery to our customers. Stretch wrapping by hand allows the load to shift in transit and cause scratches and other damage. Manual pallet wrapping also causes cuts, scrapes, splinters, back problems, and other costly workplace injuries that need to be avoided.

It turned out that many metalworking companies had the same problems and sales of our first semi-automatic wrappers took off. Yet, as more and more of our orbital stretch wrapping machines were installed throughout the country and now worldwide, and as we constantly used our own unit for packaging and shipping our metal parts orders, we kept asking ourselves how it could be improved. “How could we make it wrap faster? How about quieter? How could we make it so safe and easy to use that a caveman could do it?”

When we introduced our Smart Controls models with automated cut and wrap and wireless remote control, our customers were thrilled at the prospect that one worker could run the whole packaging department from the forklift. Sales soared. As grateful as we felt, our drive for continuous improvement demanded we keep asking how it could be even easier for our customers. Hmm, it’s already Smart but now the automated controls are…Genius.

From the enthusiastic response at the FABTECH booth (and the orders!), it seems other metal fabricators were just as eager for an even easier solution as we were. In fact, we had to ship out the Genius Controls machine from our FABTECH booth directly to a customer who wanted it immediately.

How To Use Fully Automated Stretch Wrap Machine

The Genius Controls models use proprietary sensor technology made in USA. It recognizes when a forklift approaches the orbital wrapper, scans the raised pallet load, and automatically applies the stretch wrap 360 degrees around and under the pallet and load. It knows how much to apply and stops automatically when it’s done. By eliminating the need to repeatedly get in and out of the lift truck, it also eliminates risk of slips, trips, and falls and streamlines the packaging process for greater efficiency. We’re not only wrapping pallets in 30 seconds or faster but now we’re also saving the precious time lost in between wrapping pallets.

We’re not sure what the future of automation holds beyond the Genius Controls operating package but until we can teleport palletized loads from metal shops to their customers, we’ll offer a range of TAB Wrapper Tornado models to make sure the pallet wrapping process is safe, smooth, fast, and easy.
